If you fancy yourself as a photographer, you'll fit right in at PhotoNOLA. Hundreds of photography aficionados are set to descend upon New Orleans in aid of the festival, which is celebrating its 12th annual event this December.

The event is held across multiple venues with photography exhibitions on display throughout the whole month. Coordinated by the New Orleans Photo Alliance, the event was inaugurated following Hurricane Katrina, in an effort to help rebuild the community. Photographers in the area proposed PhotoNOLA, which was made to highlight the photographic arts and create unity in the community once more.

One of the main events of PhotoNOLA is the portfolio review, which has grown to attract accomplished photographers from all over the country. The likes of editors, publishers and gallery owners attend the review, which supports the work of both established and emerging photographers. With sessions lasting 20 minutes, it's a prime opportunity for budding photographers to network and gain critical advice and guidance on sharing their work with a wider audience.

There is also a PhotoWALK, which is intended to educate the public by offering them the opportunity to view the portfolios and meet and talk with the photographers behind them. At the end of the weekend, reviewers rank their favourite portfolios and the photographer with the most votes will win the PhotoNOLA review prize, which consists of a solo exhibition at the New Orleans Photo Alliance gallery, a $1000 cash prize, and a marketing consultation with an established photographer and entrepreneur.

If you find yourself in New Orleans this December, take a peek around some of the museums and galleries in the area (check the website before you go for the best ones to suit your tastes) and support local photographers in the area. Or wait for the PhotoWALK, where you can educate yourself and meet up-and-coming photographers. Trust us, this is one photo op you won't want to miss out on.

*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
