With affordable dining at some of Portland's top restaurants for the whole of March, Portland Dining Month is back for 2017 with more restaurants taking part than ever before.
- When? 1st - 31st March 2018
- Where? Various locations, Portland, Oregon.
- Price: $29 per meal
Step away from the weighing scales, you'll be fighting a losing battle. Over 120 restaurants participate in Portland Dining Month, and at only $29 a pop for a full three-course meal across all locations, it's unsurprising that the event is popular with both locals and tourists. The scales however, you should probably put them to the back of the cupboard for a month or so.
#travioortip: Book in advance or arrive early to ensure you get a table.
Critics favourites like Ataula offer a modern twist on the Spanish 'tapeo' tradition, featuring dishes such as 'Pulpo octopus carpaccio' and 'Tortilla de patats con bellota' that are enough to persuade you to return after the discount month (maybe just for special occasions).
Try Aviary for a true taste of Portland. If the promise of 'Braised beef cheek with a dumpling of egg yolk' isn't enough to convince you then perhaps the local art and lighting that create a cosy, rustic vibe will entice you in.
Other notable favourites from the 2016 lineup include Portland's oldest restaurant, Huber's Café, keeping up alongside newcomers like Kachka and The Groaning Board. You'll discover a variety of cultural offerings at Portland Dining Month so even the fussiest of eaters will find something they like.
If saving yourself some money and eating delicious food wasn't a good enough reason to visit, the event also donates money to the Oregon Food Bank for each reservation made through OpenTable, so it's a great way to be charitable whilst helping yourself to a tasty discount. If that's not a good reason to break the diet we don't know what is.
- Get there: Fly to Portland and get around by bus or MAX Light Rail.
- Stay: Choose your accommodation based on other activities in the area.
