Heroes Brew Craft Beer Festival

22 Jul 2017
Waterfront Park San Diego

San Diego's vigilantes take a few days off every summer to enjoy craft beers in the sunshine, supplied by over 40 breweries.

  • When? 22nd July 2017
  • Where? Waterfront Park, San Diego
  • Price: check out the official website for ticket prices when they are released.

Have no fear, beer is here. If you're still feeling worried, look to the superheroes who should be able to take care of any dangers you might encounter at a beer festival... Providing they don't hit the brews too hard themselves, that is.

Over 40 breweries join forces for a fortnight of craft beer sampling. A gathering of such a talented team hasn't been seen since the formation of the The Avengers. Whilst Ironman and his band of misfits swing punches and save the world, the real heroes will be swinging tankards and singing drinking songs in the San Diego sunshine.

Super humans clothed in capes and tights will have over a hundred beers to choose from and that's not all of it. Daredevils can try their luck at the raffle, where there's chances to win smartphones and brewery branded swag like t-shirts and bags.

There's a bundle of competitions as well. Villains can win a Mission Brewery Tasting & Brewery Tour for 10 in the Super Villain competition. Last year the winners of the best Group Costume took home a $100 gift certificate - think X-men and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you look uncannily like The Hulk or Heath Ledger's Joker, well that's a dam shame for most of the year but not at the The Superhero Look-Alike competition. The most resembling lookalike is awarded with a prize. Best Original Caped Crusader is where the money is at; a $200 gift certificate goes to the most creative costume.

Last years live music was overseen by DJ Fishfonics and DJ Ramsey and next year is sure to attract more disc spinning talent that'll keep the dance floor cavorting all night long.

Participating breweries include Alesmith, Coronado Brewing Co., Ballast Point and Mike Hess Brewing. Tickets start at $34 but can be as much as $50 on the day. Proceeds go to The Warrior Foundation which works to help injured soldiers return to civilian life.

As Ms. Marvel advises, "Remember, when you decide not to be afraid, you can find friends in super unexpected places". Like at the Heroes Brew Craft Beer Fest.
