It's time to 'run like the wind blows' at Savannah's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon with the choice of a marathon, half-marathon, relay, 5K and one-mile race, so everyone can join in the fun.
‘Now, you wouldn’t believe it if I told you, but I can run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was going somewhere, I was running.’ Follow in the footsteps of Forrest Gump this November on your trip to Savannah. Yes, visit his bench but make sure you also join in on the sporty fun at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Where better to run a marathon, half-marathon or 5k race than one of the film's most used locations.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon comes to Savannah in November for a weekend of running events to suit every level. If you’re easily out of breath from running up the stairs, stick to the 1-mile family fun run in the beautiful Daffin Park or if you feeling brave give the 5K a go. With both races you’ll receive a finisher medal and participant t-shirt and will be able to enjoy other afternoon festivities.
For the more serious runners, there’s the marathon and half-marathon. Both races start at 7.30 a.m. in front of the City Hall then take you on picturesque journey through the town. You can admire the historical buildings whilst being cheered on by Spirited Cheer Squads throughout the course or listen to the local bands that are dotted along the track to keep spirits high. What’s more, you’ll also receive a beer at the finish line located at Forsyth Park, as well as admission to the ‘Finish Line Festival’ and ‘Post-Race Concert’. They also offer the bonus of a finisher jacket for those who complete the whole marathon.
If you’ve got a running buddy you’d like to partner up with you could sign up for the half-marathon relay event. The first runner runs 7 miles before passing the relay baton to their partner who must then run the 6.1 miles to finish the race. You will both still receive all the perks on offer to the other runners.
All participants will have access to the Health and Fitness Expo event held at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Centre where you must go to collect your race pack and bib before the big event. This two-day event is a great way to meet other athletes and get in the zone for the big race, so make sure you allow time to explore the centre after collecting your pack. Stay nearby so you don't have far to walk with those post-race jelly legs.
If Forrest Gump can run all the way to Monument Valley, then we should all be able to manage one of these races. Run Forrest run.
*We do our very best to verify the dates of our events but please check with the official event provider before booking your flights. We would hate for you to be disappointed!
