Bumber what? Bumbershoot of course. It may sound like a child's gibberish, but bumbershoot is actually an archaic word for umbrella, which is rather fitting since it's practically raining performances over the American Labour Day holiday.
In the Shadow of the Space Needle, Seattle Centre Park fills with thousands in Autumn. As well as the music stages, the park contains museums, theatres and performing arts venues making Bumbershoot not only one of the most popular festivals in North America but also one of the best equipped. The live music lineup is extensive, past performers include the likes of Bob Dylan and regular visitors Death Cab for Cutie keep coming back for more. There are smaller stages for more intimate grooves, the peculiar and the underground is what most people come for.
You can find comedians, dance, visual art shows and screenings of film shorts, courtesy of organiser 1 Reel Film. The popular 'words and ideas' can be anything from poetry readings to a panel show of The Simpsons cast, perfect until your choice band takes to the stage. All the entertainment has a focus on regional Northwest Pacific talent and that includes the zombie walks. Yes, organised zombie walks so bring lots of make-up and your best Walking Dead impressions.
O and don't forget your actual bumbershoot... just in case it rains.
