Seattle Street Food Festival

15 - 16 Jul 2017
South Lake Union, Seattle

We all know that the most authentic, tasty food comes from the independent food trucks that are taking the world by storm, fresh and made with love - what more could you want? Seattle Street Food Festival offers all that and more.

  • When? 15 - 16 July 2017
  • Where? South Lake Union, Seattle
  • Price: Free to attend but bring cash for food!

If you think Seattle’s food and drinks culture is all about the infamous and original Starbucks coffee house - you're mistaken. We like a good cup of coffee as much as the next person (by 11 a.m. we’re probably all onto our second cup here in the Travioor office), but Seattle has a lot more to offer than Pumpkin Spice lattes.

Cue the Seattle Street Food Festival, a two-day event that brings together the very best food trucks, independent vendors and even a craft booth line-up that is guaranteed to leave you with a full stomach and empty pockets.

Go on a journey around the world as you wander through South Lake Union. Head to the tropics of Hawaii with Ohana BBQ to sample lomi-lomi salmon or if you prefer Asian cuisine try one of the American-Asian mash-ups at Chopstix such as the Whitefish Po-Boy.

Don’t forget to leave some room for desert. Build a box of macarons with Alexandra’s Macarons or give in to the tempting smells of Hot Revolution Donuts. The ‘Drunky Donuts’ are sure to give your foodie afternoon that little extra kick or, if you prefer to save the alcohol for later, try the Maple and Bacon doughnuts (you’ll thank us later).

If you can’t go to a market without picking up a few nifty bits of jewellery or a hand-stitched bag or pillow, then you’ll love the Urban Craft Uprising line-up. Browse the handiwork of skilled designers, artisans and craftsman such as the cool prints of t-shirt and jacket company Revival Ink. You will love the monster plush and pillows from Careful It Bites almost as much as the ridiculous shower art from Ugly Baby (seriously, have a look on their Etsy store). Basically, be prepared to lose yourself in craft madness.

Thankfully admission to the festival is free, so you can save your dollars for gluttonous gorging and out-of-control shopping. And, should you have any money left, you can relax and rest your food baby at the outdoor cinema. Outdoor movies begin in July at the South Lake Union Discovery Centre, with a big blockbuster smash promised on the weekend of the festival, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to catch a movie under the stars in the Seattle summer.

This is the perfect time to stop being a tourist and start being a traveller. Swap your Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte for a jar of Wow Wow Hawaiian lemonade or Malus Ginger Beer from the drinks booths and soak up the atmosphere of the rainy city.

  • Get there: Fly to Seattle and then take the train or drive to South Lake Union.
  • Stay: Accommodation tends to be better suited to lower budgets around the Space Needle and Seattle Centre - a stone's throw from the food fest.
