If your yoga teacher has you feeling more 'whaaat?' than 'hummm' and you just can't manage to manoeuvre into that scorpion pose without kicking the lady next to you, then you need tickets to Sedona Yoga Festival.
Where better to find your zen than the untouched, rugged landscape of Sedona? You'll soon learn the art of balancing on your forearms when you have dusky red mountains bathed in sunlight to focus your mind and energy. Held in March each year, the SYF is a yoga-lover's paradise.
Now in its fifth year, the festival attracts yoga fanatics from around the world to the spiritual centre of the west to refine their skills and draw energy from the stillness and serenity of the sandstone landscape. With everything from sunrise sessions to evening hikes, the festival is a time of relaxation, restoration and reflection for those who need an escape from everyday life.
If you're a yoga instructor or enjoy studying the practice then you could also attend the festival's conference to learn a little more about the topic. The organisers focus on a specific area each year with previous conferences giving tutorials on 'Yoga for veterans' and 'Yoga for first responders.' In 2017, SYF focused on 'Yoga for traumatic stress.'
The festival caters for beginners and even offers kids yoga time so all the family can attend.
Just make sure perfecting your scorpion pose is your only encounter with the venomous critters whilst in Sedona.
