Tucson's Pride in the Desert festival takes everything we thought we knew about gay pride (rainbow hues, glitter and partying, mainly) and mixes it into a stunning location. So now you can celebrate pride the way it was supposed to be; surrounded by cacti and palm trees.
Whilst not technically located in the desert, but rather in a vast area of Reid Park, Tucson's annual pride festival is still quite the occasion. The autumn weather allows a perfect backdrop and as an art-loving city with a large student presence, Tucson is a welcoming place for the LGBTQ community. The festival attracts people from all over Arizona as well as southwestern cities like El Paso and Albuquerque.
The 2017 annual Pride in the Desert festival will be the 40th incarnation, starting at 12pm and continuing until 9pm, when the festivities officially move to the pride after-party. In 2016, this was held at the Playground Bar and Lounge.
The festival is home to a main stage with an impressive lineup of both local and national acts. Food trucks will be on standby for a tasty treat or two, and the drinks will be flowing freely, with cocktails sitting pride of place alongside the usual offerings of beer and wine. A cinema will also grace the Pride in the Desert festival, so you can sit and relax with some great films and your friends.
Tucson's annual Gay Pride on Parade, takes place along 4th Avenue before the main festival event. Many gay friendly bars, restaurants, hotels and shops around Tucson will host special events and parties during the pride festival.
For an unbeatable pride experience and LGBTQ celebration, Tucson has you covered. Just watch out for those cacti whilst you're dancing the night away.
